Just Words- Explicit, systematic, multisensory instruction for students in grades 4 - adults who require targeted decoding and spelling instruction due to reading and spelling deficits at the single word level.
The program provides directed, accelerated pacing of word structure based on the research-validated Wilson Reading System (WRS). The emphasis is on phonemic awareness, phonics, word study, and spelling.
Option for TIER 3 instruction 1:1 using guideline of 60-90 minutes per week. Depending on the frequency and intensity of delivery, it can take up to 2-3 years to complete the entire 12-step curriculum.
The Instructor manual and online Intervention Learning Community provide comprehensive teacher guidance and support.
Explicit, systematic teaching of skills through six syllable types and Latin roots. Students receive extended practice with multiple opportunites for skill development.Recommended delivery is 45 minutes 4-5x/week.
At BCHS, it has been traditionally implemented as a small group intense intervention (approx 5-15 students)
5 classes (50 min)/week, 225 minutes per week. There are 16 tests (fluency) and 10 tests (vocabulary)
There are assessments for monitoring student progress throughout the program.
Students progress through units. Acquires 80% accuracy on unit dictation test, reads charting phrases fluently, segments and spells words independently, and uses unit strategies independently.
